We're currently playing Guitar Hero 2 (PS2), the most recent song being Gemini, played by Matt and Lemming. Everything was going dandy, until someone added a huge number of notes to Lem's side, but luckily after spending half the song without star power, they had some and pulled through. The switch is on now, and Mason and Gary are up, playing Sweet Child of Mine. More reports on this shortly, but I'm going to post and see if anyone is watching the RSS - comment if you have song requests for us, or whatever :)
The song is going well. Both people are sitting, which is making the crowd go wild. Also, there is star power a-plenty, but no-one dares use it! Max enters the field and tries to get Mason to deploy star power (or maybe was just distracting him), but it fails. No worries, they will finish the song easily. While they are working on that, I've a question for anyone who knows how this sort of thing works: if I update a blog post, via hitting edit and adding more text, then posting again, does that show up well for people using a RSS feed? I know for someone sitting on the page they would probably have to refresh it to see anything. So how do you get live blogging to work? A post followed by a long sequence of comments on it? Or is there a cleaner way to do it via the blog code.
Song complete! A "Delightful set impreses the blackout bar", with a 3 stars rating. Here we go with the next song pick, same players... Heart Shaped Box, with G on the bass.
Max is being a pain, he is way too excited because of all the people visiting. He is a "people" dog, always performs his TAIL ATTACK when the front door opens. He also demands people's attention, needy doggie... He does "try" to scare people away when the door bell goes off, bark like crazy, I suppose he gets a little bit of credit for trying... But as soon as the door opens, the dog transforms into a completely useless watchdog.
Hmmm, no ice cream anywhere to be found in this house, there is a good reason why there is no stock. The last time we had ice cream, the left-over was discovered possibly "years" after. How can ice cream go bad you may ask? But but but it is true! I suppose anything is possible.
"Just let it flow. Geeze." Never let common sense, grammar, or any semblance of rhetoric get in the way of good writing. That, and never let dog slobber distract you from screaming weeblies or nailing the trembolos. But it's okay if you always seem to miss the last note -- everyone does that.

I'm back! Gary and I did a two song set: Misirlou and YYZ. We nailed YYZ with 5 stars and it was excellent. Misirlou I don't recall as well - we were trying to show G the way some notes don't need a strum to play them: they have a pure white top, rather than a white top with an outline. However, this wasn't really obvious for Misirlou because I was playing lead, which is the only one that has a few of those notes.

Did I miss the liveblogging? Google Reader doesn't check that often so I've been oblivious.
Meanwhile, I pretty much played nethack all day and then watched the fireworks from my roof.
Hiya! Yeah, just barely, we wrapped up around the time your comment posted and just got back around now. Pretty heavy traffic leading up to the 10 on the 110, and then there was an accident before the 5 which delayed us badly. How was the nethack+fireworks? :)

Instead of fireworks last night, we heard fire alarms - yup, lightning hit our building and the alarms went haywire!
No fires though - the fire fighters who arrived checked to make sure...
The nethack was excellent, I now have a promising Valkyrie who has just completed the quest. I'm planning to retake the high score from Shane...
The fireworks were okay, our view was somewhat blocked by trees but we were able to see the more spectacular ones. Also there was a nice sense of community in the way residents of the building spontaneously assembled on the roof deck to watch.
I keep meaning to figure out whether it's Reader or Blogger that's slow on the RSS uptake. Heck, maybe both. I do notice significantly slower feed updates from Blogger than most things. Slashdot is a little slow, too, and I almost invariably seen "Seen on Slash" updates hours before I see the feed update for the corresponding Slashdot story.
Based on my server logs, Google Reader only seems to ping my feed once every few hours. I don't know if it treats Blogger the same way, though.
Z: You forgot to mention by cut-the-crap moment by choosing "Freebird" as my first song (without needing anyone else to suggest this to me!) when I entered with Gary to play on one occasion. We only got 72 % of the way through. He played on hard (bad decision) and was flailing from the beginning (based on the commentary from everybody around me), though I was doing fine (on medium) until the really hard part, which was made all the harder by the fact that my hand was in awful shape by that point. After we finished, I couldn't play for something like 45 minutes or more.
willowlaughter: fire alarms are no substitute for a good fireworks show, but I'm glad there was no fire.
AG+Lem: So, was the verdict re: RSS something that I can make easier next time liveblogging comes up? Maybe a post early in the day so people can watch for it, so they don't have to deal with the RSS reader lag? Not that I was planning on doing liveblogging anyways, but maybe I will in the future. :)
Mason: clearly you needed to take up the offer and add your own commentary :) I didn't even mention half the songs played, if that. I think I missed all of the ones Mike played, and a bunch of other combinations. Sorry guys! We will just have to guitar hero again and I will be sure to write more commentary. :)
I was already pretty zoned by the time the liveblogging started and once I had the computer in my paws, the first thing I did was check the baseball scores. :)
Yeah, it's hard to watch liveblogging via RSS so the best way is to just refresh the page. Consequently it works better if people know about it in advance, but I got the impression that this one was sort of spontaneous.
