So I just had this thought: it might be neat to think of a post title first, just any old post title, and then write something related to it. Or a short story that's called that title, or any old thing like that.
I had another thought (fulfilling my quota of two for the day): what if a bunch of people who read this blog all did the same thing? Maybe with the same word, maybe each picking a different word, and then posting it on the same day? That would be pretty neat to read a bunch of stories or posts with a similar theme.
If you're reading this and interested in trying it, let me know. I think some time next week would be cool to actually do it, and I can pick the word via random dictionary the day before and post about it so everyone synchronizes.

I think that's a great idea. Just give me some warning with the time zone difference so that I can actually synchronize. :)
And just think, what would happen if 50 --- I say 50 --- people a day walked into a restaurant, sang a bar of "Alice's Restaurant" and walked out? (Your phrasing reminded me of that bit in Alice's Restaurant...)
There's probably a reason for that :-)
Walk right up, it's around the back. Just a half a mile from the railroad track!
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaraunt (excepting Alice).

Sounds neat, I'm in!
think what could happen!!
I'll give it a go :-) I agree with Mason - I know my time zone isn't that different, but warning will be good :-)
I'm game
Cool. I think we'll do it next week: I'll post on wednesday around noon what the word is, and people can write the post for that thursday.
Anyone have a preference for how to pick a word? I was thinking of just generating a random dictionary page and picking a word on that page that looked or sounded interesting. I could perhaps post several words wednesday and people could pick one in the comments thread that sounded good, or any of a variety of other methods. :)
I'm leaning on Jonathan to start up his blog again and do it too :-)
Well, it was your idea, so I would start with you picking a word. And then we can do this again with somebody else picking a word. Rinse, wash, and repeat as long as we remain interested in doing it.
Next week I am likely to be deep in Thesis Hell, but will try to join in if I've got the time. I'll be up for future instalments once the blogging hiatus ends.
You should totally pick the word, at least the first time.
I'm in. I was even going to be in before the arm-twisting started. =]
Count me in. I might not get a post up until Thursday night, though...
